We have begun St. Philip’s Fast, the 40-day period of preparation for the feast of the Nativity of Our Lord, also known as Advent. We are preparing to celebrate the fact that God’s love for us is so great that He comes to us Himself in the flesh, in the person of Jesus Christ. God’s love calls us to show the love of God in a similar fashion. We come to know God through our deeds as people. Our preparation for Christmas can and should demonstrate not only that we understand this, but that we live it: live God’s love in our actions. That is why every period of fasting (a period of preparation) is about heightening our commitment to prayer and service to each other as a human community.

Are we willing to spend 5 minutes a day praying for peace in Ukraine?

Let us join our brothers and sisters in Ukraine who light a candle and pray for peace in Ukraine at 9 p.m. everyday.

Are we willing to share what we have with others?

Bring your donation to Church for the Food Bank. Make a special donation to a favourite charity. Spend some time volunteering.
