Just five weeks to our momentous parish celebration!

Five weeks before our Anniversary Feast with our Patriarch Sviatoslav we celebrate the namesake of our parish: The Transfiguration of our Lord.

This Gospel event is central not only to us, in our parish, but to the development of the Church and the faith life of every Christian.

The Gospel account (Matthew 17:1-9) tells us that Jesus, Peter, James, and John went up Mount Tabor where those three disciples saw their friend Jesus “shining like the sun” together with Moses and Elijah.

A voice pronounced: “This is my Beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.” No wonder the three followers were terrified. Wouldn’t you be too? No doubt!

Their reaction is normal, but Christ’s response is directed to us—to you and me—and is most important: “Get up,” he said. “Don’t be afraid.” And so, Peter, James, and John looked up and “saw no one but Jesus.”

As we commemorate almost a century of our parish heritage, today we bring delicious fruits to church to be blessed, as our forebears did before us, in order to rejoice in our God who meets you and me in our humanness and says it’s ok; don’t be scared. When we “see only Christ”, we see the world transfigured—immersed in God’s loving mercy. When we live through Christ we too are transfigured by that love. The fruits of the earth we bless today are a reminder of God’s being in all creation and a reminder that we—each one of us in our parish family—are a transfigured people. And we bring light to the world around us.

6 ТИЖДНІВ до нашого парафіяльного торжества!      

            Цього року наш Клюб Зустріч обходить своє 40-ліття! Ми їх вітаємо цим значним ювілеєм та клоним свої голови перед ними з вдячністю за всю працю котру вони вложили і вложують в життя нашої парафії. Назву котру вони вибрали для себе пригадує нам щось дуже важного про наше християнське життя, а саме що Церква це є осередок де відбуваються найважніші зустрічі нашого життя: зустріч з Богом, стрічаємо наших рідних, стрічаємо нашу громаду (церковну родину). Ще від перших днів християнства це була основна характеристика християн: вони були ті котрі стрічалися і в тій зустрічі вони пізнавали Христа! Бо де зійшлося двоє або троє, зібрані заради Мене, там і Я серед них. (Матей 18:20) А ці зустрічі були нічо інше як поминання смерти і воскресіння Ісуса Христи в Євхаристійні вечері котрі з початку християни називали торжеством любови! І тому один спостерігач в другому столітті сказав про християн: дивіться як вони любляться!

Ми цього року маємо небувалу нагоду святкувати значні ювілеї нашої парафії. Робім це свідомі тої любови до своєї Церкви і народу котра дали силу нашим піонерам створити цю громаду та розгорнути громадське життя. Ми маємо перед ними та перед Богом завдання жити тією самою любовю та відданістю. Готуймося до святкувань і привітання Патріярха в дусі молитви та щирої любови один до одного, до нашого народу та до нашої Церкви!

6 WEEKS to our momentous parish celebration!

Congratulations to our Kliub Zustrich (i.e.: Rendezvous Club) on their 40th anniversary! What an opportunity to express not only our joy at their presence, but also our profound gratitude for their unceasing work and dedication to our parish. The name they chose for themselves reminds us of an integral element of our Christian life—that the Church is where the most important “rendezvous/meetings” of our lives take place; here we meet God, our loved ones, our community (our family in Christ). From the first beginnings of the Christian Church, this was the primary goal of its members: Christians were those who wanted and sought to come together, and in those meetings they encountered Christ! For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them. (Matthew 18:20) These meetings were none other than remembering the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ in the Eucharistic supper—referred to by early Christians as a banquet of love. Thus, a second century chronicler observed in amazement: Look how they love one another!

            This year we have the extraordinary opportunity to celebrate incredibly significant milestones of our parish. Let’s imbue our festivities with the same love for our Church and heritage that gave our pioneers the strength and spirit to create our parish and build a vibrant Christian community life. They have left us the responsibility to continue serving God and each other with a life of equal love and dedication. Let’s prepare to greet our Patriarch in that same spirit of prayer and sincere love for each other, our people, and our Church.

Три історичні події:

• 100-річчя відправлення першої Божественної Святої Літургії в Кіченер;
• 90 років від благословення нашого храму св. муч. Микита Будкою, перший єпископ УГКЦ в Канаді;
• святкування у вересні звеличить своєю присутністю блаженніший патріярх Святослав!

 

Three historic events:

• 100^th anniversary of the celebration of the first Divine Liturgy in Kitchener;
• 90^th anniversary of the blessing of our Church by the holy martyr Nykyta Budka, the first UGCC bishop in Canada;
• our celebration in September will be honoured with the presence of His Beatitude Patriarch Svyatoslav!
