Glory to Jesus Christ!

September 14th (or the 1^st on the Julian calendar) marks the beginning of a new liturgical year.

Coincidentally, it is the time when we are all, as someone remarked to me recently, “getting back into the old routine”. Sun, cottage, long days, and vacations are in the recent past or in the oh, so far away future!

But, the ‘old’ routine can also be comforting; we focus once more on our home, friends and responsibilities – which can be a source of satisfaction and joy. In the end, it depends on our attitude … and in terms of our attitude, the new liturgical year can be a great resource for us all.

When we look at the calendar, the first feast day is the celebration of the Nativity of the Mother of God. A feast of joy and hope conquering adversity.

In their old age, Joachim and Anna bring forth new life into the world—their faithfulness in God is rewarded by this wonderful gift and this wonderful gift will bring forth an even greater gift: the Saviour!

The next feast is a reminder of the power of God’s graciousness: the feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. This historic event of the discovery (in the fourth century) of the True Cross on which Christ was crucified, reminds us – at the outset of the new liturgical year – of the power of God’s love to raise Christ from the dead. On that day we sing: “We bow down to Your Holy Cross, O Master, and we glorify Your Holy Resurrection!”

In mid-October, we celebrate the Feast of the Protection of the Mother of God; a historic event reminding us of divine protection and graciousness (the Mother of God appeared over the walls of Constantinople and miraculously caused the attacking armies to withdraw quietly).

Our life in Christ, lived through the liturgical year, is a life full of hope, faith, joy and, most of all  (as St. Paul said), love!

Let us enter this new year with renewed vigour and thankfulness that God’s grace is present in our world and helps us overcome all adversity with joy and hope!

14-го вересня (1-го на юліянськім календарі) це початок нового літургічного року. Це співпадає із поверненням до звичних рутинів: школа, праця, літні відпочинки минулися а старі відповідальності повертаються. Хоч часто ми передбачуємо ці осінні дні із якимсь страхом і сумом вони можуть бути дні радости та сатисфакції.

А це залежить тільки від нашої настанови. А настанові наші може допомогти зосередження над цим новим літургічним роком.

Перше свято нового року це Різдво Пресвятої Богородиці – це свято радости та надії котра перемагає всяке лихо.

На старості Йоаким і Анна приводять у світ нове життя—Господь відповідає на їхню вірність цим великим даром, а цей дар приносить у світ ще більший дар: Cпасителя!

Слідуюче свято це пригадка сили Божої ласка: Воздвиження Чесного Хреста. Це історична подія: в 4-му століттю знаходжується Чесний Хрест на якому Христа розп’ято. На сам початок літургічного року нам нагадується сила Божої любови котра може піднести з мертвих Христа! В цей день співаємо: “Хресту Твоєму покланяємся Владико і Святе Воскресення Твоє славимо!”

А посередині жовтня ми святкуємо Покров Богородиці. Знову історична подія котра проявляє Божу опіку і милосерддя над своїм народом: Богородиця об’являється над стінами Царгороду і ворог чудно відступає хоч вже би міг ввійти і загарбати столицю Візантії!

 

Коли наше життя в Христі оживлене літургічним роком, ми його пізнаємо як життя сповнене вірою, надією і радістю а головно як св. Павло писав, любов’ю.

Входімо в цей новий літургічний рік із оновленою силою і вдячністю за те що Божа ласка діє в світі та допомагає нам перемагати всяке лихо радістю і надією!
