In spite of frigid weather, the KW Ukrainian community expressed its support for Majdan protesters in Ukraine by gathering for an evening, candlelight vigil on December 9, 2013.

Gathering at the Ukrainian Heritage Park, community members prayed for a peaceful resolution of the crisis. Prof. J. Jaworsky and Andrew Polischuk spoke about the importance of supporting the nascent anti-corruption and pro-Europe movement in Ukraine. The event received both press and television coverage. Keeping abreast of events was important to all the parishioners and we even had a Sunday afternoon during which we watched a collage of videos of events in Ukraine. (photo 14)

With the ongoing crisis in Ukraine and the Russian invasion of Crimea, the Ukrainian community conducted a Solidarity March from Holy Transfiguration Church to Kitchener City Hall. Speakers at City Hall included Kitchener Mayor Carl Zehr, Waterloo Mayor Brenda Halloran, MPPs John Milloy and Catherine Fife, MP Stephen Woodworth, and community representatives John Jaworsky and Andrew Polischuk.
