In the Working Centre’s Simplicity Circle Study Guide, Scott Russell Saunders discusses how the words community, communion, and communicate stem from the word common.

“Embodied in that word is a sense of our shared life as one of giving and receiving – music, touch, ideas, recipes, stories, medicine, tools, the whole range of artifacts and talents.”

Saunders describes his marriage as a community of shared love and his life as a part of ever larger communities, from family and friends to country and global humanity.

Far from exclusive or “tolerant” (that word sounds too grudging … as though, to avoid strife, we must grit our teeth and ignore whatever is strange to us) “a healthy community is dynamic, stirred up by the energies of those who already belong, open to new members and fresh influences, kept in motion by the constant
bartering of gifts …

“The community I desire is not grudging; it is exuberant, joyful, grounded in affection, pleasure, and mutual aid. Such a community arises not from duty or money but from the free interchange of people who share a place, share work and food, sorrows and hope. Taking part in the common life means dwelling in a web of relationships, the many threads tugging at you while also holding you upright.” (68)

I believe that our parish builds this community that the author describes. Just as through the Trinity God’s love always reaches out to other, so too our love reaches beyond ourselves to KW, Ukraine, the world.

Together we share food and friendship after Liturgy on Sundays. Currently our coffee money will be funding a playground for the orphanage in Ukraine. Now, the pleasure of our coffee time can be magnified—knowing that our fellowship is shared far beyond our church basement!

How? This Sunday we begin using FAIR TRADE coffee. This is coffee sourced from growers who don’t exploit their workers, but pay them fairly. What’s more is that, by buying our coffee from Kitchener’s Working Centre, whose vision of an equitable community has been flourishing for over 35 years, our parish supports their work as well.

In today’s parable of the Last Judgement, we are told that our smallest gestures towards others are made towards Christ. Together, as community, we can help each other to see Christ in others and to be Christ for each other.

В книжці Simplicity Circle Study Guide, Скот Росел Сондерз обговорює слова спільнота, причастя і спілкуватися та що по-англійському вони всі походять від слова “спільне”. “В цьому слові ми знаходжуємо поняття нашого спільного життя котре включає давати і принимати: музику, дотик, ідеї, повний ряд інструментів та здібностей.”

Сандерс описує своє подружжя як спільнота любови й праці, та своє життя як частина все більших спільнот починаючи з родиною аж до всього людства. “Здорова спільнота динамічна, зрушена енергією всіх учасників та відкрита до нових членів і свіжих впливів та годувана постійою виміною дарів. Спільноту за котру надіюся не є скупою; вона життєрадісна; її основа ласкавість, радість, та взаємна допомога.

Ось така спільнота будується не на обовязку чи грошах але на вільнім спілкуванні людей котрі обєднанні простором, спільною працею, їдою, смутком і надією. Учащати в спільнім життю значить перебувати в сітці спів-відношень котрі тебе воднораз тягнуть в різні сторони і тримають тебе просто.”

Я вважаю, що наша парафія творить ось таку спільноту яку автор описує. Так як любов Пресвятої Трійці постійно простягається поза собою – і так наша любов сягає поза нами до нашого міста, до України та до світу. Разом ми ділимося їжею і товариством після Літургії в неділю. Наша збірка при каві служить на різні цілі, останньо це було дівчатам в Петриках. А тепер наше спілкування буде мати
позитивні наслідки далеко поза парафією.

Як це? В цю неділю ми починаємо користуватися кавою ‘чесної торгівлі’. За цю каву господарі одержають справедливу заплату! А що більше ми цю каву купуємо в наших сусідах: Working Centre. Вже поверх 35 років вони плекають більш справедливу громаду в Кіченер.

В нинішні євангелії ми чули притчу про Страшний суд і ми чули як те, що робимо найменшим ми робимо Христові. Через наше спілкування, через наше користування цієї кави, ми доказуємо, що бачимо Христа в найменшого і ми можемо бути зними в Христі!
